Club History

The forming of the Atlantic Labrador Retriever Club began as a concept by a few
enthusiasts of the breed in 1994. On December 10th, 1994, the first meeting was held in
Moncton, NB and, among other issues, the first draft of the Club's constitution was
presented and the Charter Executive was formed.
The ALRC applied for CKC recognition in May 1995 and the final approved draft of the
Club's Constitution was submitted. Sanction matches in Conformation and Obedience
were held in November 1995 in Saint John, NB and February 1996 in Enfield, NS.
Entitling the ARLC to hold CKC events thereafter.
The first events held by the ALRC took place in August 1997, with the Club's 1st Specialty
show. These events were held in conjunction with the Halifax Kennel Club shows and
included conformation, obedience and working (field) competitions. The ALRC has
maintained the mandate to hold all these events on an annual basis ever since.
The ALRC hosted the Labrador Retriever Club of Canada National Specialty in 1998
Saint John, NB and in 2006 in Fredericton, NB.
